Obama's Address to Kids

I have a new motivation for blogging. My friend Lisa...okay, hold up. This requires clarification, seeing as how I have oh so many Lisas in my life. The one I am referring to just now is Lisa F. To say that this Lisa is a wealth of information is the understatement of the year. I mean, seriously - I learn something new from her every time I talk to her.

Anyway, one of her recent tid bits is that there are websites that help you turn your blog into a book. How cool is that? The sites Lisa pointed me to are blurb.com and blog2print.com. I am planning to make a book out of my blog entries starting from its inception, which is while I was pregnant, through Norah's one year birthday.

Soooooo, that finally brings me to the point of my entry. Much like my sister (another Lisa), I want to at least awknowledge Obama's speech that he gave to kids earlier this week simply to have it recorded in my blog, (which will be part of the blog book).

I find it sad that the speech has been so controversial, though admitedly I have to wonder how I would feel if it were former President George Bush instead of Obama. I can't imagine that if I was given the opportunity to read the address ahead of time (and assumning it was the same speech), I wouldn't want my child to participate.

The Houston Independent School District (HISD) gave principals and teachers the option of showing it live, recording it, or not showing it at all. Parents were also give the option to ask that their children be "opted out." What actually happened, and the number of kids that participated, varied from school to school.
