We've never taken a "stay-cation" before, but we're now big fans. Huge. Our current "stay-cation" (which sadly ends today) has only been four days, but we have really enjoyed it.
Thursday, Norah's birthday, our main goal was simply to spend some good time together as a family. We started the day with birthday pancakes...
...and then went on a little walk.
It was still hot and humid, so we decided to take Norah to the Butterfly Center at the Museum of Natural Science. She enjoyed walking around and definitely noticed the butterflies (it is hard not to when they are practically landing on you). Here are a few pictures:
Later that day we gave Norah her birthday present and as predicted she immediately started sticking everything in her mouth.
After Norah went to bed Seth and I got carryout from a local Thai place and had a toast to making it through the first year.
The rest of the "stay-cation" has been awesome. We finally got beautiful weather starting on Friday so we have been outside as much as possible. My sister and the boys came down on Friday evening to babysit Norah so Seth and I could have a date night. We did our pre-Norah usual, which was going to a place in Rice Village that has a big variety of beer and then walked to a tapas restaurant. It was great to spend some time together and enjoy an evening outside with such great weather. Thanks Li, TJ and Luka!
Saturday some friends invited us over to watch the Texas vs. Oklahoma game at noon and then we headed up to The Woodlands to babysit the boys. Friends Lisa and Dave came over with baby Tyce to hang out as well. Check out my sister's blog for some fun stories from the evening.
We woke up this morning to another beautiful start to the day. We were all headed out for a run when neighbor Philip stopped by suggesting breakfast out. So we followed through with our jogs, showered up, and met Philip and John for breakfast at a local favorite. After Norah's nap (2+ hours!) we met Philip, John and another friend and his daughter at the Italian festival to soak up the nice weather as much as possible. We grabbed a table on the lawn so Norah was able to walk around and wave at strangers as they passed by.
She missed her afternoon nap, so was in bed tonight by 5:30.
So there is the recap of our "stay-cation." We had so much fun as a family enjoying the weather and taking advantage of some of the things Houston has to offer. We have a ton more pictures that I'll put up in an album soon. But now we have to spend some dreaded time in the kitchen getting ready for the week. It will be another short one - Seth's parents come on Thursday for a long weekend so we're taking some more time off.
