5 Months

Seth's baby notes for 5 months say:


At 5 months Seth is starting on cereal and juice. He can easily be distracted from nursing by talk. He’s starting to draw his arms and knees up under him on his way to learning to crawl. He wakes up when it’s first light and plays happily in his crib for a while but then he wants company. He likes to babble and if no one pays attention to him, he’ll vocalize louder and louder until they do. He practices making his mouth into a little “O”.





At 5 months Norah has still had nothing but breastmilk. To be honest, I really haven't even considered staring her on anything else. I plan to do some reading before our 6 month pedi appointment, and will ask questions about it then, but I'm in no hurry. Like her dad, Norah is very easily distracted while nursing. Even when nursing with the cover, she is interested in looking at the pattern in the cloth, and runs her little fingers over it.


Norah is still working on rolling over, and while it happens more frequently she doesn't seem anxious to crawl. She always has her hands in her mouth. She is getting good at grasping toys and immediately puts them to her mouth as well. She is still spitting up quite a bit, although it seems to be less frequently (unless that is just wishful thinking on my part). She is still babbling, but is putting less energy into that and more into other things.


One of the things I will remember most about Norah at this stage is how often she smiles--very often a huge Gunden-cheek cheesy smile. In the mornings she often fusses on and off for a while as she is waking up, but we leave her in her crib until it gets more serious. But no matter what, when we get downstairs, we open the nursery door and by the time we get across the room she is waiting with a cheesy grin on her face. What a way to start a day!


Norah also continues to love standing on what we call her soccer legs, going for rides in the jogger, taking baths and feeling everything with her hands. The first 4 months were awesome in many ways, but I feel like we are entering a completely new and fun stage with the way Norah interacts with us. We are really enjoying it.
