House update
It rocks! While it feels like there is a lot to do to get settled we think we are really going to enjoy it and are very happy with the purchase so far. We are definitely functional in the rooms we use on a daily basis, which is a good start. There are a few pieces of furniture we need - first on the list is a breakfast nook table and a desk. We looked around at a few places this weekend but haven't decided on anything yet.
I've started taking some pictures of some of the little things that I love about our new house. Most that I have taken so far revolve around the kitchen (excuse the counter mess):
We have a massive pantry. These pictures don't do it justice.
A super quiet dishwasher (we only ran our old one at night because it was so loud).
Two, count them TWO drawers for storing tupperware.
A quiet, front-loading washer and dryer in a utility room. The quiet part is key - our old ones were super loud, especially the dryer buzzer (Brandy used to bark at it). We could hardly even hear each other talk on the rare occasion that we had to run the washer, dryer and dishwasher at the same time.
The backyard is going to be great, though we have some work to do. Unfortunately the first thing is taking down the diseased pecan tree (left side of picture below) that provides most of the shade we now get. One thought we had was to actually put in a patio there next to the garage. And of course we want to replace the pecan tree with something that will grow fast and provide some shade. There are also some nice established corner beds, but they need some love.
We have grilled several times already since we moved in, which we are both super excited about. Since our kitchen was on the 2nd floor at our old place and access to the backyard was through Norah's room we hardly grilled. It is very convenient to the kitchen now and we have enjoyed yummy grilled burgers, chicken and veggies.
Norah Update
The Little Peanut handled the transition to the new house with absolute ease. She LOVES her new backyard and continues to constantly ask to go "outyide" to "wing" (swing), "ide" (slide), and play in the "ba" (sand box). Often times she says "outyide" within seconds of us entering her room when waking her up in the morning or from a nap. It's like it is always on her mind. We also have a really nice park two blocks away, which is already seeing some good action from our household.
New words seem to be exploding from Norah's little mouth every day. It is really fun to be able to practically carry on a conversation with her. One of the funny things she has picked up on (from her mother) is, "Oh, maaaaan!" She likes to "read" her books, which is basically a continuous babble, and then announce, "All done." She still loves the picture books and we can now just point to a lot of the pictures and she tells us what they are. She also says her ABCs with a "yay" at the end, though we can't actually recognize the letters.
Here are a few pictures of Norah doing some of her favorite things in her new house.
Norah is really into "Ps" (pants) and "dur" (shirts). I bought her two summer PJ sets with lightweight mix-and-match t-shirts and pants. When we walked in her room one morning she was holding her pants excitedly saying, "P, P, P." That night when we peeked in on her before going to bed she was already pant-less. A few days later when Seth went to get her in the morning she had taken her pants off and had also attempted to remove her poop-filled diaper. Poop was smeared on her sheets and legs. Seth cleaned her up as much as possible and then started a bath. While he was getting it ready she peed on the rug (note the shiny streak down her leg).
Oops - I hear the little one waking up from her nap so my time is up! Assuming we have a stable internet connection starting tomorrow there will be more to come soon...
