If you were a fly (more likely a mosquito) on our wall, here is a sampling of what you might see:
- 5am alarm goes off for early morning run, weight lifting at the house or trip to the Y for Ang or Seth
- Macy and Norah playing "sleeping" in our closet while we are getting ready. This is sometimes accompanied with a "Mommy, Macy hit me," or "Mommy, Macy won't lay down."
- Lots and lots of playing with baby dolls. Lola continues to be the favorite. We have had many fights and much crying over pushing her in the stroller ("schrolla" as Norah pronounces it). I think Macy is finally catching on to using the timer to take turns. (Side note: I had to sew the stroller in two places, and this picture shows why.)
- Either me or Seth laying down with Norah for her nap on the weekends. We have been doing this for quite a while, as it became the only way she would fall asleep. While not ideal, it never hurts for us to relax for 10-15 minutes (which is usually as much as it takes), and it is worth having a well-rested 4 year old.
- Macy and Norah eating dinner together around 6:15. From there we take baths (every other night) and put Macy down around 7. We recently pushed this back to see if it would help her extremely early waking (5:15 - 5:30), and so far so good! The added bonus is that we get to see her more in the evenings. Once Macy is down Norah usually gets a few more minutes before starting her routine so that we are leaving her room by about 7:45.
- Macy reaching out to us saying "Upa, upa" (meaning up).
- Norah doing "big girl" things by herself like carrying her plates to the counter after dinner, turning lights off and on that just a few months ago she was too short to reach, and brushing her hair and teeth all by herself before school.
- Macy playing by herself in her room or the play room. If in her room she is typically reading books. If in the playroom she is playing with the kitchen or sitting at the table with a baby doll in her hand.
- Macy absolutely lighting up at the sight of Seth and squirming to get out of my arms while reaching out to him, or waddling/running across the room to give him a big hug while saying, "Dadaaaaaaaa!"
- Macy making the sign for "milk" (see previous post about our visit to the pediatrician). We see the sign so often that I figure she probably does it in her sleep.
- The girls playing together outside. Since we have a gate in our driveway they can be out there without us. They are often playing with water or in the sandbox, and have been found dumping sand on each other. These play sessions sometimes end by Norah screaming and wanting to come back inside because a fly or mosquito was flying near her.
- Macy doing "big girl" things like using a fork and spoon, going up the ladder and down the slide all by herself, and following directions like us asking her to take her books back to her room.
- Swinging, swinging, and more swinging. Norah learned how to pump a while back, and a few months ago she also figured out how to get herself started. Macy still uses the baby swing a lot, but is starting to show interest in the "big girl" swing. She is able to sit and hold on while we (or Norah) push her.
Some other things you would see if you were a gecko on our wall (also reality, though less likely than a mosquito) include:
- Norah coloring at the kitchen table. This is most definitely a favorite activity, with either a plain piece of paper or a coloring book (Hello Kitty is the usual). Macy likes to color as well. She sits in her booster and we tape a piece of paper to the table. She is often content for quite a while, though much of the time is spent playing with the tape.
- The girls playing "pretend." Of course Norah sets the scene, and while Macy doesn't really know what is going on she just follows Norah around and does whatever she does. It works...until Macy doesn't do what Norah wants her to...
- Norah doing puzzles or playing games with me or Seth. Her favorite puzzle is a 100 piece Hello Kitty scene. The preferred game (for all of us) right now is Memory, but another we have played a lot is Sequence.
- Me or Seth getting ready for a run, either at 5AM on a weekday or at our leisure on weekend mornings. We are both training for the half marathon in January. We are up to 8 mile runs, which takes quite a bit of time (especially for a slow runner like me). It is sort of nice for each of us to have that time alone, while the other has some time with the girls.
- Macy laying her baby dolls down, putting one leg over them and patting them to sleep. We're not sure where putting the leg on them comes from, but she often does it. If she isn't putting them to sleep she is hugging them, patting their back or giving them kisses.
- Norah helping us in the kitchen. She loves to stand on her stool and put things in bowls, stir, or do whatever else we will allow.
- At 8PM, kids in bed, Seth and I eating dinner, then picking up the house, making lunches, or doing a quick computer task before heading to bed soon after 9:00.
