I'm Not Sure About this Swimming Stuff

So we had all the gear - the suit, swim diapers, sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen. We headed up to the lake and quickly hit the pool to try to beat the storm. "It's nice the sun isn't out," we said. "Perfect conditions for a first trip to the pool." We were ready. One problem - Norah wasn't.

In her defense, the conditions weren't perfect after all. The water was chilly, the fountains were loud, and we based on what happened later, we now know Norah probably wasn't feeling up to par.

As you can see, she is relatively happy (and very prepared) before going in the pool.

But not as happy once she is actually in the pool.

(And I had to throw this one in just for hte back view)

So, we'll try again the next time we're at the lake.

Our plans were to spend the night on Saturday with Lisa, Scott and the boys, and friends Mark and Denise, and their two kids. Other friends Lisa and Dave also came up for the afternoon and evening. However, our plans changed when Norah woke up from a nap with an obvious fever, and proceeded to "lose her lunch" all over Seth. Since we didn't have a thermometer or infant Tylenol with us, we decided it was better to pack everything back up and head home. Norah was very lethargic, slept a lot, and just wasn't her usual chipper self.

We got her home and in bed (she did have a 101.5 temperature), but she slept great, woke up feeling fine, and has been back to normal ever since.

So, our plans quickly changed and we were disappointed to have to skip the weekend at the lake, but it's just what you do. It was also a lesson to me that we should have a thermometer at the lake, and that I should carry infant Tylenol with me, particularly now that she could start teething any day. It's funny how even though we were disappointed, we were totally fine with coming home because we just felt it was the right thing to do for Norah. Obviously in hindsight we probably could have stayed, but we only knew what we knew at the time.

Oh well - we'll look forward to another weekend at the lake, and of course another trip to the pool!
