Apparently when Seth was a little boy he would sit on the front porch and try to identify cars that were coming down the road just by listening to the sounds they made. He remained interested in cars through the years, and still subscribes to car magazines, points out rare cars on the road, and watches car shows on TV.
He never owned a car until we got married, and over the past 11 years he has driven a Saturn, an old Nissan pick up truck (such a basic model it didn't even have power steering), and a Honda Civic. (Automobiles of choice for a frugal person, but not necessarily a car fanatic.) At the beginning of this year he finally got a car that is fun to drive - an Infiniti G35.
Norah immediately loved the car. When asked why she said because it is loud and fast. We thought it was pretty observant of her to notice the sound. She asked to take daddy's car everywhere, and still has a clear preference for it.
Since then Norah has continued to show a pretty serious interest in cars. She can correctly identify my car, Seth's, TJ & Luka's, Philip's, Mimi and Papa's, Ally's, etc. She never gets them wrong, and can identify them from various angles. The other day she pointed out a car that is just like that of her new neighborhood friend, and we have literally only seen their car 3 or 4 times. Seth pointed out the type of car my parents just bought one day, and the next day she was correctly identifying them all over the highway.
When in a parking lot today she pointed to a car with a spoiler and said, "Mommy, that car has a handle!" Sort of an unusual thing for a 3-year old to be interested in and notice.
Seth loves Norah's interest in cars. When she makes an observation about cars or correctly identifies someones car he sits there like a proud papa and says, "That is awesome."
